Marionette Lines

Marionette Lines

Marionette lines take their name from marionette puppets, as the lines run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin and resemble the mouth of a puppet. These lines are caused when the skin loses elasticity due to ageing and the damaging effects of sun exposure. Weight loss can also cause marionette lines, when fat is lost on the face  and causes crease lines from the mouth to the nose.

Dermal fillers are an effective treatment for marionette lines; they can thicken the skin and reduce the marionette fold lines. Fillers not only help to improve the appearance of these deep wrinkles, but they restore and moisturize skin in this area. They work by providing extra fullness to the area where wrinkles are apparent. Types of Dermal Filler treatments

At Cardiff Cosmetic Clinic, we use a range of hyaluronic acid fillers, such as JUVÉDERM® and RADIESSE®. These are non-permanent fillers and their effects typically last for six to 12 months.

The hyaluronic acid used in these dermal fillers is produced biosynthetically by bacterial fermentation. (Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that is found throughout your body. It gives volume to the skin, lubricates the joints and gives the eyes their shape).

We use longer lasting calcium hydroxyl appatite RADIESSE® fillers. RADIESSE® is a unique dermal filler made from synthetic calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres in a water based gel carrier. It is 100% biocompatible, so no allergy testing is required before use. RADIESSE® is biodegradable and will gradually break down and be absorbed by your body. However, the results are longer lasting than those of the non-permanent hyaluronic acid fillers, typically lasting for 12 months or longer in many patients.

Patients express a high level of satisfaction with each of these products.
